Momentum
A moment does not exist
A moment cannot be experienced
A moment cannot be seen, heard, or touched
Experience the world
A constant churning
An endless rotation
A cloud that looks like a boy
Until you look back
And it is a man
And when you look again
It is just a white wisp
Against the boundless blue sky
A "moment" is a lie told by art
A "moment" is a drug peddled by Kodak
A "moment" is a fantasy world where time stops, right when we are happy.
~Greg Halloran

Why can't a moment be experienced? It can't be repeated maybe, but everyday is a series of experienced moments. We may not be aware of most of them, unless they are the kind that make you stop and notice. A see what you are saying about time stopping right when we are happy, that is a good portrayal of a moment.
ReplyDeleteCan time not be seen, heard or touched, is that the same as a moment? L
Well, to look at life in a larger context, it can't be just moments strung together. Where would the moment start or stop? Life is fluidity. We like to remember this moment and that moment for their importance in our lives, like the photograph or the wedding day. But in reality, everything flows together, making you wonder where life went.
ReplyDeleteHey L,
ReplyDeleteI like your reaction. I am not so sure I can directly confront it. I am trying to get at the way a feeling or an experience cannot be separated and singled out, except in the world of art. I feel that I often attempt to achieve things that are only fulfilling for the blink of an eye, something that would make a good photograph. I am challenging myself to think differently.
Hey Alex,
ReplyDeleteThat makes me think of one way I have heard reincarnation explained by a Buddhist. Did you know I talked about weddings in my RELI 121 response paper?
